F4U Corsair

I had recreated a WWII F4U Corsair in 3DS Max to hone my modelling skills. It was a lot of work and a lot of time went into the textures. To showcase the model I created a small animation in the style of an old WWII News reel. I combined old footage and recordings with the 3D environment. Aside from the first few seconds of the intro and one scene with 3D overlayed onto the footage, everything in the video is 3D. The dog fight is my favorite part, it took a long time to get it to look right. I watched a lot of old footage so that I could re-create it in the video.

This was a personal project to hone my modelling skills. This was the most detailed model I had ever done. I tried to recreate the model based on the original blueprints. I did a short animation of the model in action and so far it has gotten 1.2 million hits on YouTube.

3DS Max & Vray were used along with custom materials and textures. The smoke effects were done with afterburn. For the animation I used Sony Vegas Movie Studio to put it all together.
